Background:
The pupil premium is allocated to schools in respect of children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. This applies to both mainstream and non-mainstream settings. Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit to “close the gap” between children from disadvantaged circumstances and those above the low-income threshold – it is not linked to a specific child, but is to be used for overall impact. However, we are held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families.
Our School
In 2023-2024 Lewis Street Primary School received £245,194 pupil premium funding and £11,896 recovery premium funding, giving a total of £257,090 based on 204 pupils who either received Free School Meals or who are Looked After Children or post Looked After Children. This equates to approximately 48% of the pupils on roll.
In 2022-2023 Lewis Street Primary School received £217,826 pupil premium funding and £22,246 recovery premium funding, giving a total of £240,072 based on 169 pupils who either received Free School Meals or who are Looked After Children or post Looked After Children. This equates to approximately 40% of the pupils on roll.
In 2021-2022 Lewis Street Primary School received £203,684 pupil premium funding and £21,816 recovery premium funding, giving a total of £225,500 based on 160 pupils who either received Free School Meals or who are Looked After Children or post Looked After Children. This equates to approximately 40% of the pupils on roll.
Schools can choose how to spend their pupil premium money as they are best placed to identify what would be of most benefit to the children who are eligible. At Lewis Street we have analysed our barriers for learning, which include speech, language and communication skills; underdeveloped oral language and vocabulary; issues associated with mental health and disadvantage and social and emotional issues most notable due to low self-esteem; lack of enrichment activities and first hand experiences.
Pupil premium spending decisions are reached by an analysis of pupil outcome data and termly monitoring in school. Progress and impact is measured using Strengths and Difficulties’ Questionnaires (SDQ); Boxall Assessments as well as qualitative feedback, including pupil voice.
