Like our Art & Design Curriculum, our Design Technology (DT) curriculum has been carefully planned our in order to develop the creativity and imagination of our pupils. Our aim is to provide the children with transferable skills that they can apply in Science, Art & Design and beyond. Our curriculum aims to open up the world of engineering and enterprise to them and provide them with knowledge, opportunities and aspirations for the future related to DT. Pupils’ design skills will develop through evaluation and critical thinking and they will become resilient, problem solvers in a variety of contexts. Pupils will become proficient in the cycle of DT whereby they research, plan & design, make and evaluate.
Each year group studies three DT themes a year; these include projects based on structure, electronics, mechanisms, nutrition and/or textiles. This has been rigorously planned so that children revisit and build on knowledge and skills across their time here at Lewis Street. We focus on the three key milestones of Design, Make & Evaluate.
