Parent/ Carer Volunteers:
We currently have Mia Singh in Year 2 and Rachel Gill in Reception.
It is a pleasure to report that Lindsay Shearer, who was a volunteer is now employed by Lewis Street and is working as a Learning Support Assistant in our Year 4 class.
We also had Miss Donna Farrell in Reception but are delighted to announce that she successfully applied for a job as a Learning Support Assistant at our partnership school, Christ Church. Our loss is definitely their gain. Good luck Donna!
Our volunteers cover a range of duties from reading with the children, supporting writing, administration of guided reading resources, displays, assisting on school trips and swimming.
The children are enjoying having new adults in their classrooms and their assistance has been invaluable to the Teachers and Learning Support Assistants.
When asked for feedback on how they are settling in one of our volunteers said the following:
“Volunteering at Lewis Street has given me an amazing opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience and has enabled me to observe first hand how it all works. The prospect of working with Year 6 was daunting at first but my fears quickly disappeared when I was warmly received into the class. I have been working with some great children who teach me something new every week. In fact, I was able to answer a question on Mastermind because of something I learnt with one of my readers!”
