Nursery to Reception
Staff here at Lewis Street appreciate that this can be an exciting yet apprehensive time for you and your child. Places in Nursery are offered from the September following your child's 3rd birthday. We will do whatever is necessary to assist this process and have a planned settling in programme which can be adapted to suit the needs of individuals.
Transition from Year 2 to 3
As children prepare to move from year 2 to year 3, staff at Lewis Street provide opportunities for the children to ease with this transition. Staff at Lewis Street appreciate that this can be an exciting yet apprehensive time with the children going upstairs to their classroom and lessons being more formal. We have transition days that take place in July which gives the children the opportunity to meet staff and familiarise themselves with each other and explore their new surroundings. During these three days the children produce work that will be put up on display in the classroom which helps them to feel happy and safe when they return in September.
Transition from Year 6 to High School
During Year 6, our children and families are supported with their important decisions about high schools. There are many schools to choose from and the children visit these to help with the transition process. We have a designated transition officer from Salford City Academy named Ms Jones who attends our school every week for an afternoon and helps out in the classroom and is on-hand for any questions or queries from any of the children about high school.
Our PSHE units in Year 6 are designed around issues that our children will face when attending high school and the transition process so they feel as confident and secure as can be about this process. Our PE lessons in Year 6 are often taught by coaches from outside agencies who also work with high school aged children to increase their confidence in dealing with new people and new ways of learning. We also have visits from previous students who are now at high school who talk to our children about their experience in transitioning to high school which we find is extremely effective as our Year 6's often know these children and value their input.
