Children are expected to read every day at home. You can hep your child by reading with them; sharing books you find interesting; discussing meaning of new words; talking about the different characters and predicting what might happen next. Children are encouraged to read different types of stories and non-fiction texts. By signing your child's reading record, the teachers can monitor how much is being read and the children will move onto a new book quicker.
Homework is set in different ways across the school. You can help your child by setting time away from any distractions to help them concentrate. Teachers will give help to children who need it and there are homework clubs in school that the children can attend to help them get work completed and handed in on time. By getting into good habits with homework and reading, children will be better prepared for the demands of this as they get older and will be able to manage their workload when they get to high school.
